NHS hosted Cardigan Mountain School on 9/25 and left with a big win.
After missing the opportunity to play during the CMS Jamboree, NHS had the opportunity to take on the consistently talented and competitive Cardigan Mountain JV squad at home on the Lower Field. Both sides had their fair share of scoring opportunities in the first half, but thanks to strong effort in the goal from Jeffrey Joyce '28 the game was all tied up 0-0 going into the half. The action really picked up in the second half of the game. Cardigan was able to notch the first goal of the game off a beautiful cross that wound up at the feet of a wide-open striker on the far side. Despite a valiant effort by Joe Dietrich '27, the ball snuck its way by the near post. Joe was able to lock in after that, though. NHS struggled at times to clear the ball out of the penalty area, and thanks to Joe the game remained manageable. As the second half of the game went on, the Huskies seemed to wake up more and they really stepped up the aggression. The offense started to string together passes, and not long after Andrew Sells '28 was able to set up Gabe Ouellette '27 for his fourth goal of the season. In order to get a few fresh new looks, the Huskies shifted Sean Duncan '28 up to the midfield with Max Moore '27, and stacked the offense with Gabe and Ryan Suarez '28 on the wings to support Simon Gujral '26 at the striker position. The skill, speed, and pressure proved to be too much for the tiring Cardigan squad as Sean D. was able to set up Max for his first goal of the season, putting NHS up 2-1 with the minutes waning. In true Cardigan fashion, the Cougars never stopped fighting and nearly clawed their way back to tie on multiple last minute chances. Luck was on the Huskies' side a couple times, and the team was able to leave the field with their heads high, knowing they are going into a 10 day game break. We look to host a tough Proctor squad on 10/4 on Kennedy Field.
