A change of venue gave New Hampton another home game on Wednesday, as Exeter traveled up to the Lakes Region for a non-league game.
New Hampton went down early after Exeter took advantage of two walks and an error, but the Huskies battled back. That would be the story of the game. Abby Schrader got the bats going for New Hampton with a triple, and the Huskies would put good swings on the ball for the rest of the game.
As in the first game, walks and errors gave too many free passes to Exeter. With the score 9-7 in favor of Exeter in the 6th inning, the Huskies were within striking distance. But walks and a single in the top of the 7th quickly turned the score to 13-7, and when New Hampton went left a runner on first in the bottom of the 7th, that was the game.
Overall, this game marked a huge leap forward for the Huskies. Liv Sabin and Ellie Zink again had strong innings, and they were supported by defense that was at times stellar. Tightening up the walks and putting more balls in play will lead to New Hampton wins down the road.
The Huskies now travel to Winchendon on Wednesday for another non-league game before the start of Lakes Region play.
