The Huskies hosted a talented and physical Bulls team today on Kennedy Field. This Lakes Region Rivalry started off with aggressive play from both sides as each team tried to find an edge. It seemed like the Bulls might have found the edge early as they were awarded a penalty kick, but it was stopped by an amazing diving save from the Huskies own Harry Jenkins. Holderness had a few more opportunities at goal but the Huskies started to pour the pressure on as Tanner Keenan and Noah Stevens both had great scoring chances in the first half. Ultimately it was a battle of the defenses and it went to half time with a score of 0-0. The second half opened with more of the same physicality but the Huskies were starting to take advantage of some breakdowns in the Holderness defense. Hayden Weeks finally broke the tie with a beautifully struck ball from 25 yards out that grazed the bottom of the crossbar before ending up in the back of the net. The goal gave the Huskies some much needed rejuvenation as they battled the unseasonably warm fall day. New Hampton found their groove in the second half and began to generate some dangerous scoring chances off of some beautiful balls played out of the midfield by Parker Mason and Patrick Fitzpatrick. The hard work eventually paid off for Fitzpatrick as he made a run down the right flank, beat his defender and was then fouled in the box and awarded a Penalty Kick. Fitzpatrick calmly slotted the ball into the left corner of the net and put the Huskies up 2-0. After their final goal of the day, the Huskies faced a surge of pressure from the Bulls but were able to subdue it without allowing any dangerous scoring opportunities. Both teams battled extremely hard but the Huskies had the upper hand today and were able to come out with a 2-0 victory. The Huskies will face a talented Vermont Academy team at home this Saturday.
