The team traveled to Exeter to play at the meticulously maintained Breakfast Hill Golf Club. As soon as the first groups headed out, the rain came down. After a brief delay, and some shirts wrung out, the Huskies headed back out to where they left off to resume the match. The team decided to switch up the order.
Phillips Exeter chooses to send out the golfers from the 8 spot down. So in the first group was Brody and Jeff.
Brody went back and forth the whole way through his match, to bring it to even on the final hole. He fired a very nice round of 44 and earned a half point. Jeff found trouble on some tee shots, but when he found the fairway, he carded some impressive scores. Jeff saw action for the first time in a match this season, and we’re glad he did.
In the 5 and 6 spots were Sean and Grady. Both players shot respectable rounds, shooting 45’s but their opponents had themselves “ a day “ and swept all three points.
Captains Mark and Jack put themselves in the three and four spots in the line up to give Eli and Colin a taste of being in the one and two spots. That’s how much Eli and Colins games have improved from last season to now.
Mark halved his match by shooting a wet gripped and shoeless round of 42. Jack also got in touch with nature and ditched his waterlogged golf shoes and shot a barefoot 45.
Colin had a heck of a time getting his grips dry, and it really affected his round. All smiles when finishing regardless, and that’s all that matters. He shot a respectable 44.
Eli had himself a day. Firing a 39, another impressive round turned in, he earned a full point for the team total.
Conditions were tough for every golfer, wet grips, wet feet, Sean and Grady also ditched their shoes. It was by no means a pleasurable afternoon to play golf, but the team took it in stride and kept the spirits positive. They were able to get 6 or 7 dry holes in before it stared raining again as the teams came up the eighth and ninth.
Hopefully the weather stays dry this week for the team. We have a range day planned for Monday, practice round Tuesday, match Wednesday, another practice round Thursday, off day Friday and match on Saturday.
