The Huskies showed up for today’s game ready, focused, and dressed in pink for a great cause. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at home, the Huskies dominated from the first whistle, shutting out Holderness 5–0.
Right away, New Hampton set the tone with sharp passing and great communication. Less than two minutes in, a scrum in front of the net ended with Lanah pushing the ball past the Holderness goalie to put the Huskies up 1–0. Just over a minute later, the Huskies struck again on a fast break. Lily sent a strong ball into the circle, and Lola redirected it perfectly into the back of the net to make it 2–0.
The Huskies continued their strong play throughout the first quarter. With just two seconds remaining, a shot destined for goal was stopped by a Holderness defender’s foot on the line, leading to a penalty stroke. Lanah stepped up with confidence and sent a beautiful shot high and left to complete the quarter with a commanding 3–0 lead.
In the second quarter, the Huskies didn’t let up. They continued to push up the field while the defense stayed solid during Holderness’ few offensive breaks. After a rebound off the goalie’s pads, Lily was there to finish and extend the lead to 4–0 heading into halftime.
At the half, the team emphasized keeping their energy up, maintaining clean clears, and using the sidelines. The third quarter went scoreless, but both teams played excellent defense and created solid scoring chances.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Huskies capitalized on an offensive corner. A direct shot from Lanah was saved, but Emma was right there to clean up the rebound with a powerful strike that slammed into the back of the cage, making it 5–0 Huskies. That’s how it would finish.
The final quarter remained a battle, with the Huskies showing depth, adaptability, and hustle across the board. Highlights included Kelsey stepping into three different positions throughout the game (midfield, center back, and center forward), Lanah dropping back to anchor the defense, Ella moving up from the backfield to strengthen the midfield, and Tovausing her speed to contribute on both defense and midfield. Emilie and Brooke also made great contributions on the right wing when they entered the game.
It was a true team win that showcased the Huskies’ flexibility, communication, and competitive spirit. The team now looks ahead to preparing for two more Lakes Region games next week.
Go Huskies!
