Huskies Earn a Strong 3–1 Win at KUA

It finally felt like fall today, crisp air, changing leaves, and perfect weather for field hockey. The Huskies took full advantage, hitting the field at Kimball Union Academy with great energy and excitement for a competitive Lakes Region matchup.

From the opening whistle, the Huskies came out hungry. They stepped to every ball, pushed up the field, and connected well with crisp, clean passing and strong communication. Just six minutes into the first quarter, Kelsey Baker sent a hard, low ball into the circle from just outside the 25. After a quick scramble in front of the net, Lily corralled the rebound and got it to Lanah, who buried it in the back of the goal to give the Huskies a 1–0 lead.

The Huskies kept the pressure on for the rest of the quarter but couldn’t find the back of the net again. In the second, KUA came out strong, making solid defensive stops and pushing hard into the offensive zone. Six minutes in, they earned a corner and capitalized, tying the game at 1–1.

The Huskies responded immediately. They picked up the pace, spread the field, and moved the ball with precision. After several close chances on offensive corners, their persistence paid off. Ten minutes into the second quarter, Lily again found Lanah in front of goal, who put away her second of the game, giving the Huskies a 2–1 lead heading into halftime.

During halftime, the team focused on maintaining their strong passing game, making sure to pick their heads up before sending passes, and staying patient on defense, working together to force KUA into tight spaces instead of reaching and fouling. The message was clear: stay composed, stay aggressive, and don’t let up.

The Huskies carried that mindset right into the third quarter. They used the full width of the field, strung together smart push passes, and kept the ball moving on the ground. Six minutes in, a big pass up the field found Lanah, who broke away with a KUA defender right on her heels. Showing patience and poise, she dribbled into the circle, set up her angle, and fired a beautiful reverse chip that soared from the left side of the circle to the top right of the goal, an incredible finish for her third goal of the day and a 3–1 Huskies lead.

Although that would be the final score, the Huskies never stopped hustling. They continued to generate strong offensive chances, several just wide or off the post, and their defense stood tall, stepping to every ball and shutting down KUA’s pushes up the field.

A special shoutout to Liv E, who stepped into a defensive starting position today due to injuries and played with grit and confidence, stepping up to every challenge and working hard all game.

The Huskies played a gritty fourth quarter, finishing strong and walking off the field with smiles after a well-earned 3–1 Lakes Region win. They’ll take the lessons from today, continuing to refine the little things to make their big game even stronger, into another Lakes Region game at home against Holderness on Saturday.
