Huskies Battle in Tough Loss to Proctor

On this hot October day, the Huskies were out-hustled by a quick and aggressive Proctor team. Although the game didn’t end in our favor, there were plenty of learning moments and in-game adjustments that the Huskies should be proud of.

The first half was dominated by Proctor, as the Huskies struggled to find their offensive rhythm. Despite some strong defensive efforts, breakdowns in marking left Proctor players open in the circle. Proctor capitalized on two offensive corners, one in each of the first two quarters, putting them ahead 2–0. While the Huskies made solid clears, they weren’t able to connect the passes like they usually do. Communication was lacking at times, and the game occasionally looked like a back-and-forth battle of ping pong.

The Huskies were also challenged with lineup changes, stepping up to fill in for missing regular starters and adjusting on the fly when another player went down with an injury. The group worked hard to find their rhythm together, even when things felt out of the ordinary early on.

At halftime, the Huskies focused on finding a renewed sense of urgency, stepping to every ball, staying five yards, and communicating more effectively. They came out energized in the second half, controlling possession and generating several offensive corners. Five minutes into the third quarter, a hard shot toward goal was saved by the Proctor goalie, but Lily Thomas was ready on the rebound, knocking the ball into the back of the net to bring the score to 1–2.

Although that would remain the final score, the Huskies dominated the second half, even while facing adversity in the form of multiple cards. Frustration, heat, and physical play led to two green cards and three yellow cards, but even when down three players, the Huskies held strong and didn’t allow another goal.

While the loss stings, the team showed grit and good sportsmanship throughout the game, even when they didn’t agree with every call. Losses like this only fuel their determination to grow stronger and more connected. The Huskies look forward to getting back to work and preparing for two key Lakes Region matchups next week.

Always forward. Go Huskies!
