Huskies Defeat Tilton, 2–0, but Seek More

It wasn’t the cleanest day of play for Husky Field Hockey, but a win is a win, and today the Huskies came away with a 2–0 victory over the Tilton Rams.

The Huskies opened strong, dominating the first seven minutes of play with sharp passes, smart movement up the field, and several near-scoring chances, only to be denied by Tilton’s strong goalkeeper. But after that early surge, the Huskies lost their offensive rhythm. Too often their sticks weren’t on the ground, heads weren’t up, and passes landed in their teammates’ feet, leading to turnovers.

Despite the setbacks, New Hampton broke through late in the second quarter. After a scramble in front of the cage, Lanah Quong finished the play with a goal, assisted by Emma MacPherson, giving the Huskies a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter brought another spark. Enter Liv Esposito, who subbed in with clear instructions: get to goal, keep her stick down, and attack every ball. She executed perfectly, positioning herself near the left post and burying a shot to double the Huskies’ lead to 2–0.

While the offense struggled to find consistency, the Huskies’ defense kept Tilton in check. The back line stepped strong, cleared effectively, and limited Tilton to just four shots on goal. In net, Luna McCulloch stayed sharp, denying a penalty stroke to preserve the shutout and the 2–0 win.

Though today’s play left room for improvement, the Huskies remain focused on growth. With a big matchup on Saturday, the team looks forward to resetting, finding their energy, and capitalizing on their full potential. Always forward, Go Huskies!
