Huskies Open Lakes Region Play with 5-0 Win Over Brewster

On a hot September day, the Huskies traveled to Brewster for their first Lakes Region matchup of the season. It was clear from the start that some adjustments would need to be made, Brewster’s slower, longer turf was a different feel than the Huskies are used to. The team worked hard in warm-ups to get comfortable.

The first quarter opened with a slow start as the Huskies adjusted to the field and the Bobcats’ style of play. While they created some good pushes forward, they spent much of the quarter in the defensive end. Their corner defense was strong, and late in the quarter, the Huskies earned a corner of their own. They capitalized with a perfectly executed play, and Kelsey Baker put the Huskies on the board, 1–0.

After regrouping between quarters, the Huskies came out for the second ready to play their game. Passes were crisp, players were cutting hard, and the team generated chance after chance. Despite several close opportunities and scrappy moments in front of the cage, the Bobcats’ defense held strong. The half ended with the Huskies still holding a 1–0 lead.

At halftime, the team set a clear goal: finish their chances, look up before passing, use the width of the field, and keep their feet to goal in the circle. The Huskies returned to the field determined and dominated the third quarter despite the heat and a scrappy pace. After earning another corner, Lily Thomas tipped in a beautiful goal to make it 2–0. The quarter included some challenging moments, with the Huskies having to play a person down due to cards, but they stayed composed and worked through the adversity.

The Huskies regrouped between quarters and came out firing in the fourth. Lola Gallo found the back of the net twice, both off excellent assists from Lanah Quong, who showed great patience in setting up each goal. With just five minutes left, Lanah again beat her defender and set up Lily Thomas for her second goal of the game, sealing the 5–0 win.

Fresh legs off the bench brought energy all game long, helping maintain the Huskies’ momentum and keeping connections strong all over the field. It was a true team effort, resulting in a shutout and a strong start to Lakes Region play.

The Huskies now look ahead to a quick turnaround, preparing for another Lakes Region game this Saturday at home against Proctor.
