Huskies Power Past Holderness with a 3-1 Victory on the Road
The Huskies hit the road for an exciting Lakes Region matchup against the Bulls of Holderness. Before taking the field, the team showed their support for both the NHS men's and women's soccer teams, cheering them on during their games. Despite a shortened warmup, the Huskies came out energized and ready to dominate.
Right from the start, the Huskies took control, stepping to the ball and gaining possession. The first half saw the majority of play on the offensive side for New Hampton, with impressive passing and connections throughout. However, it took a bit of time to break through Holderness' defense and find the back of the net. Julia Loughlin was the first to strike, sending the Huskies up 1-0.
Holderness responded with a strong run up the field, forcing a defensive corner on the Huskies, but New Hampton successfully cleared the ball and quickly moved back into their attacking zone. Kennedy Walker then smashed a hard shot into the back of the goal, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead. The offensive momentum continued, and Loughlin struck again, this time off a rebound from a corner, pushing the lead to 3-0 going into halftime.
In goal, Mary-Ann stood firm, though she wasn't called into much action during the first half. Defenders Ella Fischetti and Skyler Lacasse were rock-solid, applying pressure in the midfield and making crucial block tackles to maintain possession.
The second half saw a more aggressive Holderness side, as they began to find their rhythm and put pressure on the Huskies. They doubled the ball and made quick passes up the field, eventually drawing a corner and capitalizing to make it a 3-1 game. Though the Huskies continued to push offensively, they were unable to add to their lead in the second half.
New Hampton finished with a strong 3-1 victory. Moving forward, the team looks to keep improving by focusing on communication and quicker ball movement. Great win for the Huskies!
