The Huskies endured an early scoring drought in today’s Lakes Region League matchup against Holderness, falling behind 7–0 to open the game. New Hampton's Saige DeJesus responded with back-to-back three-pointers and Serenity Lancaster converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Huskies a 9–7 edge.
Holderness remained within striking distance throughout the second quarter, but New Hampton gradually gained separation and carried an eight-point advantage into the halftime break.
Defense fueled the Huskies in the third quarter, as they limited the Bulls to just four points. Abby Schrader led the charge with 6 deflections and a steal, Chloe Dix tallied 4 deflections and 3 steals, and DeJesus added 4 steals. Casey Stores and Libby Dahn gave strong defensive efforts as the Huskies had 17 steals on the day.
The Huskies’ lead ballooned to as many as 21 in the fourth quarter behind the steady scoring of DeJesus, who poured in a season-high 22 points. Ava Perry chipped in with 9 points, while Dix pulled down 7 rebounds. New Hampton also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 13 of 15 attempts to seal the victory.
New Hampton improves to 9–2 and will hit the road this weekend for AAA matchups against St. Andrew’s and Tabor.
