Huskies Defend Home Court with 70-54 Win over Newman
New Hampton earned a hard-fought 70-54 victory over visiting Newman School, showcasing their depth, balanced scoring, and collective, relentless defense.
The Huskies set the tone early, jumping out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter with Elyse Ngenda nabbing 4 steals and converting them into easy buckets. That momentum carried into the second quarter where NHS continued to execute on both ends of the floor and extend their lead to 40-22. Serenity Lancaster had a strong paint presence netting 8 points, while Ngenda led the team with 11 at the half.
The third quarter tested New Hampton's composure as Newman increased their offensive output. However, the Huskies responded with timely buckets of their own, including a perfect 8-for-8 team performance from the line, to increase the lead, 60-38.
Newman outscored NHS in the final quarter and dominated the offensive glass, but the Huskies ultimately prevailed, 70-54.
Offensively, New Hampton relied on balanced scoring across the roster. Ava Perry, Ngenda, and Lancaster ended the game in double-figures. Lancaster earned another double-double (20 pts, 13 reb., 5 blocks, and 4 ast.) while Chloe Dix chipped in with 8 points and 10 boards. Kailey Sullivan, Casey Stores, Saige DeJesus, and Shannon O'Leary netted key baskets that answered every Newman run. The team shot 88% from the free throw line for the second time in 4 games.
