Huskies Edge Dexter on a Buzzer Beater Putback by Ngenda

The Huskies scored the first bucket in today's match-up with Dexter Southfield, but they did not have the lead again until Tahlia Pena '25 hit a step-back 3 with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter. Elyse Ngenda extended the lead to 3, 57-54, after Serenity Lancaster secured a key defensive rebound, but Dexter's Izzy Adams (24 points) answered with a triple to tie the game with :52 on the game clock. With just seconds remaining and the score still notched at 57, Pena drove the lane and was fouled, but no free throws were awarded. The clock showed 3.5 seconds when Ava Perry '27 inbounded the ball to Ngenda who got an open look but it fell short. Ngenda crashed the boards, secured the rebound, and put up one last attempt before the final buzzer sounded. Everyone in the gym held their breath as the ball circled the rim 3 times before finally dropping through the net. There was an explosion of joy in the packed gymnasium as the New Hampton bench and the student section rushed the floor in celebration!

Kitt Jones '25 was the X-Factor in today's win. Her defensive pressure held Dexter's Ella Peper scoreless in the second half. Jones finished with 6 rebounds, 3 points, and 3 assists.

Also, stepping up big were sophomores Casey Jones, Ava Perry, and Shannon O'Leary, as well as senior Adriana Hernandez. They took care of the ball (the team had just 7 turnovers in today's game) and hit big shots when we needed them most.

Ngenda had an impressive game finishing with 20 points, 12 boards, and 5 assists. Lancaster also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with 4 assists and 5 blocks. Pena was the third Husky in double-figures with 11. New Hampton shot 50% from 3FG.

The Huskies improve to 7-2 and travel to Worcester Academy tomorrow for a re-match.
