Huskies Win Season-Opener at Dexter Southfield

The Huskies traveled to Brookline, MA for their season-opener against Dexter Southfield School tonight. Both teams were a bit slow coming out of the gates. The score after the first quarter was just 5-6. Dexter gained a 4-point lead midway through the second quarter, its largest of the game, behind back-to-back threes from Ella Peper. Luckily, New Hampton's Thalia Pena '25, Casey Stores '27, and Elyse Ngenda '26 caught fire from behind the arc to help even the score at 21 by halftime.

The two teams exchanged blows in the third with 4 lead changes. Strong work on the boards by Serenity Lancaster '26 and timely shooting from Pena, Stores, and Ngenda gave the Huskies a 3-point advantage heading into the final quarter.

The fourth period belonged to Lancaster. She scored 12 of her 14 points in the final 8 minutes, including a 10-for-12 performance from the free throw line, to secure a 55-54 win for the Huskies. The junior transfer ended the game with a double-double (14 pts./10 rebs.) while Co-Captain Ngenda contributed a game-high 20 points and grabbed 9 boards. The Huskies shot 47% from behind the arc with Pena going 3-for-6, Stores 3-for-7, and Ngenda 2-for-3. Senior Kitt Jones' defensive efforts were key to tonight's victory as she limited Peper to just two field goals in the second half. Adriana Hernandez '25 led the team in steals with 4.

Overall, it was a great team effort and an important Triple A League win for the Huskies! NHS will play St. Paul's School at home on Wednesday, December 11th. Tip-off is at 2:30PM. Roll 'skies!
