The Men's Varsity B Huskies took to the hardwood at Smith Gymnasium on Wednesday for a matchup against non-league opponent Lee Academy.
From the outset, the Huskies struggled to match Lee's physicality. Two quick fouls on Beau Millar put New Hampton in a hole, and Lee jumped out to an 11-6 lead that they would never relinquish.
Guards Jett Sizer and Ryder Brainis paced the Huskies from behind the arc, but New Hampton struggled to establish any kind of game at the rim. Careless turnovers against the press and poor transition defense led to some easy runouts. Miscommunications on switches and poor defensive rebounding stopped the Huskies from gaining needed momentum. In total, Lee recorded 22 offensive rebounds, which New Hampton was unable to overcome.
One bright spot on the day was the team's fight. After going into the locker room down 16 at the half, the Huskies did not fold. With 12:00 left in the second half, after a quick timeout after a Jett Sizer three-pointer, New Hampton was down only 13. While it never got closer, New Hampton proved they would not lay down when faced with a deficit.
The Huskies move to 8-6 on the season heading into the long weekend, and they now face off with KUA next Wednesday at 2 PM.
