Huskies Rally from Early Deficit to Best Brewster

Tim Tracy
Brewster Academy squared off against the Varsity B Huskies on Wednesday, and the game was one not to be missed.

From the early tipoff, Brewster controlled the flow of the game. An offensive rebound led to a 3, a turnover led to a runout, and Brewster piled on to take a 13-0 lead. It was everything New Hampton did not want to start the game.

It was not until Jett Sizer hit a 3-pointer at the 10:48 mark in the first half that New Hampton put any points on the board. To their credit, they did not allow the lead to bother them. Slowly but surely, New Hampton chipped away at Brewster's lead, switching defenses between man-to-man and 2-3 zone to slow down the Brewster attack.

Shots also began to fall. Ryder Brainis, Jett Sizer, and Beau Millar all poured in baskets, several from downtown, and despite the slow start, New Hampton ran to the locker room with an improbable four-point lead and the momentum.

The second half was an offensive output. New Hampton stayed hot from downtown, with Jett Sizer hitting back-to-back threes, and after a Beau Millar layup from a timely Jett Sizer assist, the Huskies were up 51-39 and threatening to pull away.

But Brewster had one more run in them, fueled by some poor late-game execution on the part of New Hampton. A quick press confused the Huskies, and a couple of careless turnovers led to quick Brewster baskets. New Hampton rushed some shots, missed some foul shots, and with 1:00 on the clock, it was a 73-69 game. Defense, however, would win the day. Jett Sizer forced his man left into a Jasper Bias-Derry and Beau MIillar double team, and after a tough pull-up miss, Beau Millar came away with the rebound and hit foul shots to seal the game.

New Hampton now moves to 2-1 in the MAISAD and faces Bradford Christian Academy at home on Saturday afternoon at 3:45 in Smith Gymnasium.
