New Hampton took on Putnam Science in the consolation game of the NEBL post season. We had a lot to work on after the game the night before and the Huskies responded well.
From the jump, that game proved that it would be a physical affair. There were bodies hitting the group and a lot of battles for loose balls. We did a good job pushing the tempo and getting good looks at the rim. We went on a 10-0 scoring run to extend the lead to 13 with 5 minutes to go. Putnam responded with a mini run of their own, but New Hampton went into half up 7.
In the second half, Putnam executed well right away, cutting the lead to 2, 3 minutes in. The Huskies regrouped and were able to respond. It stayed a 6 point game in either direction the rest of the game. The Huskies led for 27 minutes of the game, but Putnam went on a scoring run of 15-0 from the 3-1 minute mark. The Huskies battled to the end, but ultimate came up just short.
We had 5 in double figures: Jayden Harrington (14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), Stetson Merritt (14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Edison Onwe (12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist), Wesley Waddles (12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal), and James Sanderson 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists).
