In a statement-making performance on the road, the Huskies earned a huge upset victory over highly ranked Phillips Exeter Academy in a key NEPSAC matchup — a win that positions them strongly in the race for the Small School playoffs. The game began at a high pace, with both teams bringing high intensity and physical effort right from puck drop. Chances were generated early at both ends, but it was Junior Captain Emma MacPherson ’27 who broke through first, burying the opening goal to give the Huskies a 1–0 lead heading into the second period. The second period mirrored the first in pace and competitiveness, but Exeter began to tilt the ice with sustained offensive pressure. The Huskies’ defensive corps was challenged shift after shift by Exeter’s skilled forwards. Goaltender Elizabeth Vincent ’27 rose to the occasion, standing on her head and turning aside quality scoring chances to preserve the lead. Despite the strong defensive effort, a defensive-zone breakdown gave Exeter the opportunity they needed to capitalize and tie the game at 1–1 heading into the third. The final frame was a battle. Both teams continued to play with urgency, knowing the stakes. Senior Captain Addy Peel ’26 delivered in a clutch moment, wiring home a beautiful power-play goal to restore the Huskies’ lead. Exeter answered with a power-play tally of their own, knotting the game once again and setting up a dramatic finish. Six minutes later, freshman defender Emilie Poirier ’29 chose the perfect moment to score her first Husky goal, stepping up in a big way to put New Hampton back on top. From there, the Huskies elevated their defensive commitment. Every player bought in — blocking shots, breaking up plays, winning battles along the boards, and managing the puck with composure. Vincent ’27 continued her strong play in net as the team locked things down to secure the monumental win. The upset victory over one of NEPSAC’s top teams gives the Huskies valuable momentum and puts them in an excellent position as the Small School playoff picture begins to take shape. They’ll look to carry that energy into another tough NEPSAC test when they travel to Dexter on Wednesday, 2/18, for a 3:00 PM puck drop.
