Deerfield Edges New Hampton in the Final Frame

DEERFIELD, MA --

The Huskies were back on the road for a major NEPSAC test against Deerfield Academy, a top-five team in New England. From the opening puck drop, the Huskies showed they were ready for the challenge, matching Deerfield’s physicality and intensity shift for shift. Both teams played a disciplined, high-level game and generated quality scoring chances throughout the night. Goaltender Elizabeth Vincent ’27 was outstanding early, standing on her head to keep the Huskies in the game and turning aside every Deerfield chance in the first period. The Huskies had opportunities of their own to strike first but were unable to capitalize. The second period continued in the same back-and-forth fashion, with physical play and strong defensive efforts on both sides. Deerfield broke through first to take a 1–0 lead, but the Huskies responded immediately. Sophomore Merritt Fitch ’28 buried a perfectly placed shot to tie the game at 1–1, injecting energy back into the bench.
The third period mirrored the first two, as the Huskies continued to battle and search for the go-ahead goal. Despite sustained effort and pressure, Deerfield found the net once more, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal. Although the result didn’t fall their way, the Huskies showed tremendous fight, composure, and competitiveness, proving what they are capable of when they play a complete game with consistent effort and execution. The Huskies return home on Saturday, 1/24, to face Holderness in an important Lakes Region matchup.
