Huskies Hand Undefeated #2 Dexter Their First Loss of the Season

NEW HAMPTON, NH --

The huskies were excited for their final NEPSAC matchup before playoffs against undefeated #2 Dexter. Both teams anticipated this game, and came out hard. The huskies controlled most of the play in the first period, but Dexter skated to an early 2-0 lead, capitalizing on the huskies' mistakes. However, the huskies did not back down, and continued to play their hard forechecking game. Defenseman Drew Hayhurst '25 opened the scoring for the huskies off a well-placed shot from the point, cutting the Dexter lead in half going into the second. The huskies continued to play a hard, physical game. Early on in the period, Kelsey Baker '26 tied the game for the huskies off a silky breakaway finish. The period remained back and forth, and Dexter found themselves in penalty trouble. True Thompson '25 took advantage on the powerplay to give the huskies their first lead of the game. Goaltender Elizabeth Vincent '27 kept Dexter at bay the rest of the second to sustain the 3-2 husky lead into the third. Dexter came out hard in the third, putting all sorts of pressure on Vincent, but she had an answer for each of their chances. The huskies continued to play their game. Dexter ended up tying the game with about 6 minutes to go. Another late powerplay for the huskies paid off, as Caroline Thomas '25 came in clutch to give the huskies a 4-3 lead with 3 minutes to play. The husky defenders put everything on the line to maintain their lead, blocking shots, clearing pucks out, and maintaining offensive pressure. Vincent made a final save at the end off a face-off with 3.9 seconds left to secure the win for the huskies. The girls grinded out a hard-fought 4-3 win to keep their Elite 8 tournament hopes alive.
