Huskies Play Hard, Fall Short in Final Game of Season

Coach Russell
In an extremely physical game during which the teams combined for 53 personal fouls, 5 technical fouls, and which saw 4 New Hampton and 2 Cardigan Mountain players foul out, the Huskies jumped out to a 20-12 lead, fending off the Cougars' full-court press and flustering their outside shooters. Turnovers and points in transition continued to plague New Hampton, allowing the Cougars back into the game and to take a twenty-point lead into halftime. The Huskies fought back in the second half, methodically working the ball inside to center Jayden Jones (30 points) and coming to within twelve points, while forcing Cardigan to play their starters for the entire game. Although Jones supplied the bulk of the Huskies' firepower, the game was a team effort which saw offensive contributions from Max Moore (7 points), Malachi Williams (6 points), and Elias Arvidson (4 points). In addition, the Huskies played tenacious defense, with Michael Fisch-Zappala and Tosinmile Odunsi limiting the Cougars' high-powered offense to five three-pointers for the entire game. Although the final game of the season ended in a loss, it was the Huskies' finest team effort and a satisfying end to a long, oftentimes grueling season.
