Huskies traveled to KUA to meet the Wildcats for a 9v9 season opener. The Wildcats were feisty, and their attack was strong, notching 2 goals in the first quarter despite the strong sticks of Veteran Emma Morel and newcomer Elli Zink. In the first, on a cross ball with a mostly open opportunity, Zink kept her stick down, earning her first defensive save. Senior Ella O’Neil, experienced in the field, made her debut in net, marking 13 additional saves on the day. In the second quarter, Huskies turned up the heat, creating more offense.
First timer, Casey Song played her way around the field into the second half, showing promise both on attack and defense. While settling into the back field position, she added yet another defensive save for the Huskies. Also finding her niche in the defensive circle was first timer Amelia Arroyo, who gained confidence throughout the game and came up with the ball several times in traffic. Freshman Celia Burgos was tireless in the midfield, gaining many opportunities to move the ball and creating opportunities for shots. In the final quarter, Senior Emma Morel and Freshman Roberta Scott demonstrated a beautiful break away but were thwarted by the KUA defense. The Huskies travel to the lake at Brewster Academy Wednesday to face the Bobcats.
