The huskies were back on the road in a rivalry matchup against Cushing Academy. Both teams came out hard and battled back and forth. The huskies dominated the shots, but the Cushing goaltender had an answer for each one. Cushing had their own chances, and husky goaltender Vera Lee '24 kept the penguins off the board. 0-0 going into the second. The second period was a little more physical with more penalties being called. The huskies opened the scoring on the power play, however the goal was called back due to goalie interference. The huskies continued to dominate in the shot category, limiting Cushing's chances in our zone. Vera Lee '24 continued to play lights out to keep the game tied at 0-0 going into the third. Physicality continued in the third. The huskies were down a few players due to injury/sickness but found a way to stay in it. Cushing ended up scoring the fist goal of the game (that counted) to take a 1-0 lead soon into the third period. However, just a minute or so later, Julia Loughlin '24 had an answer and tied the game at 1. Cushing continued to battle and, again, scored the go-ahead goal off a second chance opportunity. The huskies would not quit, and Julia Loughlin '24 again put the huskies on her back to tie the game at 2, just a few minutes later. The last few minutes of the third continued to be physical, but both goalies kept the game tied at 2 heading into OT. The huskies started OT off strong, but took a penalty just a minute into OT. The huskies PK, however, battled hard to keep the puck out of the net, and even caught a clean 2-on-1 break going down on the Cushing goaltender. A beautiful pass over to Kelsey Baker '26 by Kayleigh Michaud-Nolan '25 was the best chance the huskies had all game. The Cushing defender threw her stick to stop Baker, resulting in a penalty shot, giving the huskies the chance to end it. Kelsey Baker '26 took the penalty shot and was the hero as she slipped the puck through the Cushing goaltender's legs. What an amazing team win, especially with all the adversity the huskies faced. The girls are back at it on the road against a tough NEPSAC opponent on Friday, when they travel to Andover MA to face off against Phillips Andover.
